If it ain't broke, don't fix it
....errr.....
I mean, if it ain't broke, it doesn't mean it still can't hurt?
So the results from my Chest x-rays are in. NOTHING IS BROKEN! That is a HUGE YIPPIE in my world. I was seriously concerned that I had fractured something in my chest. The breathing is still getting better day by day. Riding in the trainer is when it is best, Riding on the road isn't bad either, Swimming is next best and running is an adjustment. I think the biggest shock to my system is the amount I have had to slow down in the running to compensate for comfort. But I am totally following coaches orders and making sure to pay attention to my body and not over do it. I am hoping that some quality R&R this weekend after tomorrow's workout will have me feeling tons better. Like I said, I am feeling 1 million times better but I am still not at 100%. It is really damn aggravating!
My knee however is a different story. I thought it was totally healing fine. Still sore if you poke at it but overall doing well and it never really visibly bruised up. Well I have found the one thing that does aggravate it. Road Cycling. Specifically; Hills. Tons of Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation in my future this weekend. Oddly enough it really does not hurt for running which is what amazed me. Hopefully I will see some improvements in tomorrow's ride and run.
On a completely different side note:
While working out today, I realized how much I like running in the morning. When we first moved into our neighborhood exactly 4 years ago, I used to run in our neighborhood all of the time. It was a nice little area that I could run about 1.5-2 miles without repeating roads. I know some people would go looney but when running alone in the early mornings it works well. When training for Augusta 70.3 ramped up last year I did a majority of my runs on base because I was running at 5am in the dark and base just felt a bit safer. So, I haven't really run a ton in my neighborhood for the past year.
Well my new training plan calls for a lot of brick workouts which means no running on base unless I plan on taking my bike and trainer and riding in the parking lot (too early to ride on the roads, it is pitch black). So I have arranged my schedule to do most of my workouts at the house which means running in my neighborhood. There are some many mundane things that I love about running in my neighborhood.
-I love seeing the same pair of people running every morning
-I love seeing the same owners walking their dogs
-I love seeing the neighborhood wake up and all of the garage doors opening
-I love seeing the same sprinklers on
-I used to love watching the construction crews arriving in the morning for their work on a new home and seeing their weekly progress.
-Now I love seeing the for sale signs come down and moving trucks arriving
-I am perplexed by the car that sits in its drive way for 20 minutes each morning running and then magically the next time I come around it is off and appears that it hasn't moved.
-Soon I will love the comfort of children at their bus stops with their parents. There is something so soothing about seeing the same families every morning.
-I like waving to the bus driver while she parks and waits for her next route to begin
-I see the same cars driving out of the subdivision
-I smile at the new student drivers heading to high school
-I say hi to the random cats that just hang out and watch me run by
-I love seeing the occasional bunny that I find hiding on someones lawn
I know it would make a lot of people batty but the routine is comforting. Plus I get to notice some pretty awesome stuff while I run. (I stay pretty alert of my surroundings while running regardless of where I am) It is all pretty routine stuff but it is cool to see that everyone has their own little routine each day. And that in a small little way, I am a part of their routine as well.
Cheer and Happy Morning Running!
