Well last week was quite eventful for me. As you all know I passed out on Monday which was quite eventful in and of itself but at the time of my post I didn't realize just exactly what I had done to my body. But then came the rest of the week... a wake up call.
So after taking Tuesday off as a precaution, I showed up to the group ride on Wednesday; 25 miles is typically no biggie. The wind was horrific but I was a trooper and I stuck out the ride. from about mile 5 onward, I pretty much rode alone in one constant headwind. The fall had taxed me enough that I couldn't keep up with my normal gang but not quite slow enough to ride with those behind me. So I chugged along, alone on the roads. Just be and the pesky headwind that would not go away. About 12 or so miles into the ride I noticed that my breathing on the left side of my chest was fairly labored and felt really restricted. This is the side of the body where I slammed into the door frame. Putting two and two together, I figured I had bruised myself but still carried on my way. I finished the ride but decided to forgo my transition run in order to play it on the safe side. I vividly remember saying to the group "I think I bruise my lung or something".
Thursday Morning I felt well enough to hit the pool, so I jumped in for my morning workout.
Warm up: Fine
First set of workout: Doing Ok
Second set of workout:... Yeah not so much
I finished the second set in my workout and made it to my cool down but really my cool down consisted of about 100-150 yards of backstroke which really wasn't comfortable and about 100-150 yards of balance drills. My breathing was extremely labored and my lung felt beat up like it was run through the meat grinder. Once I left the gym I called Kenny and said "If this thing doesn't get better I am going to see Dr Renner". Kenny and I both decided that it would be best for me to try and get an appointment on Friday.
Fast forward to lunch time at work and I decided that I was going to take the rest of the day off and go see my doctor. Folks this is huge, I never take sick leave. I wasn't dying but I definitely wanted some answers to my questions and my Doctors office was only open a half day on Friday so I made the decision to be a walk in. Love my doctor, they got me right in!
So Survey Says... likely a pulmonary contusion with the possibility of some bruised ribs. I was sent for a chest x-ray that afternoon to make sure nothing was broken. I don't have the results from that yet but we shall remain positive. Who knew that a person could fall that hard when passing out to cause this to themselves. I surely didnt!
Very luckily, cycling on the trainer is not super taxing. I spent Friday and Saturday on the trainer (doc said it was ok) and still felt accomplished enough to not feel horribly sidelined. Sunday was a complete day of rest and today I was back to my normal training routine.
However, Running is still a bit labored. I ran 1.5 miles this morning and if left like I had run 15. I feel like a newbie runner who hasn't figured out how to make their lungs appreciate a run. All in all, I am improving, Not 100% but getting better daily. Thank goodness this happened now and not in Late August or September.
Kenny is still forbidding me from ever stepping foot in a medstop! :)
So instead of focusing on training this weekend I focused on cooking. I made a successful sunday night dinner of salmon, greenbeans, sweet potatoes fries (Baked) and stuffed peppers.
However, Major lesson learned. When your husband, who has a higher spice tolerance than you, runs to the fridge to grab milk after he eats a stuffed pepper, YOU ARE IN TROUBLE! And these are the mild of the four peppers we are growing. YIKES!
