Life Comes at you quick and before you know it you have a half written blog with great pictures that has been sitting in your drafts for a week. Oops! It's the thought that counts right? Luckily I already have my next two planned so cheers followers.. good blog content is on it's way. Hopefully I can get this one cranked out before something else of urgency comes along. ;-P
First for the Steak
Kenny and I don't have kids, so this year we declared Father's day to be "Husband Day." Conveniently he declared this after mother's day.... hmmmm I wonder if that was on purpose? Regardless, I took it upon myself to make Husband Day special and I actually decided that I would cook. I know seriously... this had to be a big occasion. Really the meal came together because Kenny put in in charge of the tomato vinagarette side dish and I just decided to take it all over.
I made a salt and pepper marinated steak with taboule and fresh tomatoes from our garden. I added rosemary and chives from our garden to the tomato and balsamic mixture and then also added some roasted garlic to the taboule. Yeah I was pretty dang impressed with myself.
I even pulled out one of our "Good" bottles of wine. Meet our favorite wine, the Louie Latour Pinot Nior. We had two bottles sitting on our wine rack and I decided to crack one open. I need to remember to go buy some more. This gem was from 2005.
Then came the Singular
I have been sick for a bit of time. At first I went to the doctor and they put me on a zpack and sent me on my way. Then 2 weeks later I went back to be told that the yuck still had not gone away and was put on doxycycline. Follow up two weeks after that and the infection was gone but not the respiratory problems. As a youngster I was diagnosed with Upper respiratory breathing problems and a cat allergy that I thought I had under control all these years. Apparently living with two cats and coming off of Zyrtec D in January added up to the return of my breathing issues. Some examination from the doc and the verdict is...
EXERCISE INDUCED ASTHMA
Oddly enough, I have suspected a minor case of this for a while. Especially during the season changes so the diaganosis really didn't surprise me. For the moment I am on Singular which seems to be helping. I take it nightly in the hopes that during exercise it will assist me with breathing. It still has not brought me to 100% pre illness status but at least I can tell the labored breathing is slowly going away.
Randomly, I did get the seal of approval on my heart as the doctor told me I have a very "athletic" heart and awesome blood pressure! At first he suspected a minor heart murmur but then did a few quick checks and just realized that it was a low resting heart rate and a heart that was accustomed to functioning at a much higher capacity. Yippie for me. I apparently function like an athlete!
And then the Speed!
To put things into perspective, the only thing I have previously hit close to this was a sprint tri at which I averaged 18mph on a 14 mile pancake flat course at the end of the season in October. This time last year I was barely pulling 16mph on our rides in prep for Augusta 70.3.
A different view... 37.96 miles with a max speed of 31.4mph. Yeah, I do love me some downhill.
So eat that Exercise Induced Asthma. I might be allergic to cats and have trouble breathing but I am still making progress. If Singular works, I will be forever grateful. I can;'t wait to see what I can do on a full breathing capacity!
